We’re one of the oldest oyster companies in the world, tracing our roots back to the 1400s. We have a long and rich history of farming the world-famous Whitstable Native Oyster and at our peak in 1850, we were sending as many as 80 million oysters a year to Billingsgate fish market.

In 1975 the Green family took over the company with the aim of cultivating the highest quality oysters possible and breathing new life into the company which had fallen on hard times. The family's aim was to develop sustainable aquaculture techniques to produce superior oysters, while building and preserving a company which is arguably a unique piece of British history for generations to come. In 1997 our 140 acres of oyster beds were granted protected geographical status by the European Union.

More recently, our business has expanded to include The Whitstable Brewery, The Hotel Continental and the East Quay Bar & Restaurant. We also own over 20 beach huts which are situated directly on the beach and provide stunning views over our oyster beds and of the estuary. Our thriving company of more than 150 staff, cultivate, shuck, prepare and serve an exceptional and unique seafood experience at our restaurants and hotels in Whitstable on the North Kent coast.
